Detour at Route 344 bridge over Route 11

LEETONIA - State Route 11 traffic will be detoured and restricted this week for beam removal as part of the state Route 344 bridge replacement project over the highway near Leetonia in Columbiana County. Between 10 p.m. today and 5 a.m. Thursday, state Route 11 traffic will be detoured via the on and off ramps at state Route 344. ODOT's contractor for this $2.36 million project is A P O'Horo Company of Youngstown. The completion date is August 2013.

Beaver Local BOE to meet Thursday

LISBON-The Beaver Local Board of Education will meet in special session at 5 p.m. Thursday in the administration building conference room, 13093 state Route 7. The purpose of the meeting is to enter into executive session to discuss negotiations. No action will be taken.

Children's Choir to perform at church

DAMASCUS-The children's choir of the Damascus United Methodist Church at 300 Valley Road will present the musical, "Meet Me at the Manger" at 10:10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday. The musical is filled with many songs and soloists that help persuade the grouchy store owner, Mr. Herod, that wise men still follow Him today. New Christmas toys will be presented to a local charity. A cookie and punch reception follows.

The public is invited to the all-you-can eat breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Fish fry set at Guilford Lake Ruritan Hall

GUILFORD LAKE - The public is invited to an all-you-can-eat fish fry from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Guilford Lake Ruritan Hall on Route 172 at Hanna Drive.

Santa to visit at Angels for Animals

CANFIELD - Santa Claus will visit Angels for Animals at 4750 W. South Range Road (Route 165) from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. Pictures with Santa are available with mom, dad, children, and/or "fur-kids." Photos are $10. Proceeds benefit the organization's low-cost spay/neuter programs. Pets adopted on Dec. 14 will receive a free photo. Refreshments will be served.

Dance set Saturday at Salem Eagles

SALEM - A dance will be held from 9 p.m. to midnight Saturday at the Salem Eagles Club on North Ellsworth Avenue. Music will be provided by Lazy River.

Springfield Tiger fund raiser planned

NEW MIDDLETOWN - The 2012 Springfield Tiger basketball fund raiser cookie walk and Chinese auction will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at St. Paul's Church, 10142 Main St. Boxes are provided. Premade trays of cookies are also available.

Breakfast with Santa set at Salem VFW

SALEM-The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 892 Men's Auxiliary, located at 496 Arch St., is hosting a breakfast with Santa from 8 to 11 a.m. Sunday. Haystacks, or a traditional breakfast of eggs, pancakes, hash browns, sausage patties, toast, orange juice and coffee, will be served. Cost is $4.

Quilt group to meet at Canfield park

CANFIELD - That Quilt Group I Belong To will meet for dinner at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 18 at Fair Park. Doors open at 6 p.m. Cost is $15. Reservations may be made by calling Donna Bishop at 330-533-1202. Those attending are asked to bring a wrapped, unfinished quilting project, or eight quarters, for the gift exchange. Membership is open to all interested quilters at all skill levels. Columbiana Tourism Bureau sells calendars

COLUMBIANA - The Columbiana Area Tourism Bureau is selling 2013 calendars featuring pictures from Columbiana. Cost is $10. Calendars are available from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday at the Columbiana Chamber of Commerce office, at the Joy of Christmas light show from 6 to 9 p.m. every day, and at Vivian's.

Theaz Guyz perform for Food Pantry

SALEM - Music will be provided by Theaz Guyz at the "Rocking for a Cause this Season" fund raiser for the Salem Community Food Pantry. The event will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday at the Salem Little Quakers Hall, 1688 S. Lincoln Ave. Food, snacks, mix and ice will be provided. Cost is $7 per couple or $5 per person. A silent auction will be held featuring donations from local merchants. Those attending are reminded to bring non-perishable food items to be donated to the food bank for local distribution. Perry trustees to meet on insurance

SALEM - The Perry Township Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the office of Fiscal Officer Susan Johnston, 245 N. Ellsworth Ave., regarding the group insurance policy for 2013.
