SALEM -Mary Jane Leeper, 85, of Salem, Ohio, died at 4:10 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at Essex of Salem II.
She was born Dec. 27, 1926, in Salem, a daughter of the late Russell L. and Edith L. (Ward) Whinery.
Mrs. Leeper was a 1943 graduate of Salem High School and attended Mount Union College from 1943 to 1945 before transferring to Muskingum College where she graduated in 1947 with a degree in dietetics. She retired Sept. 1, 1986, as director of dietetics after working 32 years at the Salem Community Hospital. Mary Jane had previously spent a year as a dietetic intern at the St. Luke's Hospital in Cleveland.
She was a member of the Salem First United Methodist Church and a member of the Fadely Guild of the church.
Her husband, Clair B. Leeper, whom she married April 14, 1950, survives her along with a son, Bill Leeper of Salem; and two nieces and nephews.
A sister, Martha Jean White and a brother, Dale Russell Whinery preceded her in death.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home with Pastor Douglas George officiating.
Calling hours will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home prior to the services. Burial will be at Grove Hill Cemetery.
