Public Employees Retirement to meet

LISBON - Public Employees Retirement Inc. of Columbiana County, Chapter 59, will meet at 1 p.m. Monday at the Taste of Country on Route 45, Lisbon.

Salineville Kiwanis to honor student

SALINEVILLE - The Kiwanis Student of the Month will be honored at breakfast at 7 a.m. Jan. 15 at the Kiwanis building.

Leetonia 1955-57 to meet for lunch

LEETONIA - Leetonia High School classes of 1955-57 are invited to lunch at noon Jan. 16 at Paul's Antone's in Columbiana.

Developmental disabilities board to meet

LISBON - The Columbiana County Board of Developmental Disabilities will hold a reorganizational and regular meeting at 7 p.m. Jan. 16 in the administration office, 7675 state Route 45.

Financial aid meeting set at United

HANOVERTON - United Local High School will hold a financial aid meeting at 7 p.m. Jan. 16 in Room #310. A representative from the financial aid office at University of Mount Union will review sources of financial aid and give instructions on how to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Parents of students who are planning to further their education are encouraged to attend.

Beaver Local accepts fame nominations

LISBON - The Beaver Local High School Athletic Hall of Fame is currently accepting nominations. Nomination forms are available at www.beaver.k12.oh.us/blhof/hall-fame.html or in the high school office.

Diane's Birthday Bash set at Angels

CANFIELD - The public is invited to Diane's Birthday Bash on Jan. 19 at Angels for Animals. An Italian dinner of wedding soup, salad, lasagna, bread and birthday cake will be served from 5 to 8 p.m. at Andrews Hall. Cost is $10. There also will be a Chinese auction and 50/50 raffle. Tickets for the raffle and auction may be purchased starting at 10 a.m. The drawing starts at 7:30 p.m.

Sale at animal welfare thrift store

HOWLAND - "The Menagerie," the animal welfare thrift store at 6037 E. Market St., is announcing a 50 percent off storewide sale. The public is invited from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Jan. 19. All proceeds benefit the animal welfare shelter.

Breakfast buffet offered by Salem Masons

SALEM-A public breakfast buffet will be served from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Jan. 26 at the Salem Masonic Building, 788 E. State St. Cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children under age 10 and free for children under 2. The menu offers pancakes, waffles, sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, homemade sausage gravy, biscuits, homefries, toast, fruit cocktail, orange juice, coffee and tea. The building is equipped with a handicapped accessible elevator. Proceeds will be directed to the Salem Masonic Building Fund.

AAA Driving offers South Range classes

BEAVER TOWNSHIP - AAA Driving School will hold a driver education class after school at South Range High School starting Jan. 28. For information about cost and dates call 330-692-0763.

Chili cook-off set at Columbiana Legion

COLUMBIANA - The Columbiana American Legion Riders and the Columbiana American Legion will host the fourth annual chili cook-off from noon to 4 p.m. Jan. 20 at the American Legion, 44403 state Route 14.

This year's competitors are Guilford Lake Grille, Hoot's Hot Chili (Carrollton), The Wine Connection, Columbiana Diner (Lawrence Deidrick), Bo-Jangles Roadhouse Blues, John Kufleitner (Columbiana Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge) and Heck's Restaurant, all of Columbiana, No Swine Left Behind (Leetonia), Kravitz Deli (Poland), The Original Roadhouse (Unity), Fred Perry Family and Jo-Lee Depillo (Youngstown).

There will be door prizes and a Chinese auction. A 52-inch TV and autographed Dale Earnhardt Jr. racing memorabilia will be auctioned.

Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door which include one sample from each of the competitors. Additional bowls of chili will be sold. The canteen will serve Columbiana Street Fair fries, hot dogs and beverages.

This year's event is sponsored by McMaster's Farms, Columbiana Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge, Kelly Oil and the Lawn and Short of It Landscaping

Baby photo contest held at Carnation Mall

ALLIANCE - The Carnation City Mall is sponsoring a Valentine-themed "Lil Sweetheart" baby photo contest. Entries are open to children from birth to 3 years.

Entries must be a 5x7 photo and submitted by Jan. 28 to the welcome center or via email at marketing@carnationcitymall.com and accompanied with an official form (available at the welcome center or email).

The winner will be chosen by the most votes submitted in the official entry box at the mall. One vote per person. Votes will be accepted Feb. 1-13. The winner will be notified on Feb. 14 and receive a $100 mall gift certificate.
