Southern Local 54, Sebring 44

SALINEVILLE - Despite a slow start, the Indians were able to pull away from the Trojans.

Southern Local found itself trailing Sebring after the first quarter, but in the end the Indians held on for a 54-44 victory on Friday.

The win moves Southern Local, which has won six of its last eight, to 8-4 on the season.

Sebring led, 13-10, after the first frame, but Southern Local got things going and went into the half with a four-point advantage.

Luke Griffith led all scorers with 29 points for the Indians. Griffith, who matched a season high in points, also had four blocks.

Kyler Woodward finished with 11 points, 13 rebounds and for blocks, while Jared Shilot netted seven points.

The Trojans were paced by Dylan Mick's 17 points.

In junior varsity action, Southern Local won, 53-26. Caleb Gotschall led the Indians with 15 points, followed by Josh Brown with 10.

Southern Local will be back in action on Tuesday at home against ITCL Lower Tier leader McDonald.

Beaver Local 63, Hubbard 55

HUBBARD - A strong third quarter propelled Beaver Local past Hubbard, 63-55, on Friday.

The Beavers trailed 8-7 after the first quarter, but went into the half clinging to a one-point advantage. A 19-10 third frame in favor of Beaver Local changed the momentum.

"It was a close game, back and forth," Beaver Local coach Jake Walgate said. "There wasn't a whole lot of scoring in the first half. They were playing pretty slow against our zone, but we secured some good rebounds and were patient on defense.

"In the second half, we were able to turn up the pressure a little and make them play faster."

The win moves Beaver Local to 9-4 on the season. The Beavers have won five of their last six games.

Zack Mick had the hot hand for Beaver Local finishing with 18 points and seven rebounds.

Brandon Fetty netted 16 points to go along with five assists, while Jared Lyder scored 10 points, grabbed six boards and dished out four assists.

Troy Hudson had eight points, seven rebounds and five assists, and Chase Hilliard added three points, four assists and four steals.

In total, Beaver Local finished with 18 assists as a team.

For Hubbard, Jordan Thompson led with 22 points, while Derek Kopanic added 17 points including five three-pointers. The Eagles hit eight three-pointers total to keep things close.

No junior varsity results were reported.

The Beavers will be back in action next Friday at home against Canfield.

South Range 59, East Palestine 44

NORTH LIMA - A slow start proved too much to overcome for East Palestine as it dropped a 59-44 contest on Friday at South Range.

The Bulldogs (4-5) fell behind early, 19-11, after the first quarter and went into the locker room trailing by 15 points.

East Palestine has now lost its last two after four straight wins.

Austen Reiser paced the Bulldogs with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Nate Keylor finished with 10 points and five assists, while Nick Monteleone netted six points.

South Range had four players in double digits led by Mason Miller's 15 points.

In junior varsity action, South Range won, 46-20. Grant Wagner led East Palestine with seven points.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Tuesday at home against Springfield.

CADIZ - The Huskies toppled the Wildcats.

The Harrison Central boys' basketball built a 20-point lead at halftime en route to a 65-46 victory Friday night over visiting Buckeye 8 rival Edison.

The Huskies led 20-7 after the first quarter, and Harrison Central extended its lead to 37-17 at halftime.

Alec Jones scored a team-high 13 points to lead the way for the Wildcats, while Dylan Jones netted eight points.

Rashean Mitchell collected a game-high 21 points to lead the way for Harrison Central.

Edison's next game is Tuesday at home against Martins Ferry. Harrison Central plays Tuesday at home against Bellaire.

HOOKSTOWN -?The Rams weren't able to hold off Avonsworth.

South Side dropped a 54-45 decision on Friday at home against Avonworth. The loss drops the Rams to 2-4 on the season.

Jon Magusiak paced South Side with 19 points, followed by Lucas Collett with 12 points.

The Rams will be back in action on Tuesday at Ellwood City.
