LISBON - Volunteers will take to the streets of Columbiana County on Jan. 22 to search for the homeless as part of a mandatory head count that must be conducted for local agencies to remain eligible for federal homeless aid.
The count will take place over 24 hours, starting at midnight, with volunteers going to homeless shelters/transitional housing and other locations were the homeless may be living, such as campgrounds, the Broadway Wharf in East Liverpool and abandoned buildings.
Last year's count found 49 people were homeless, 38 of whom were staying in temporary shelters and semi-permanent transitional housing. The remaining 11 were found to be "unsheltered" or staying on the streets, in abandoned buildings, etc. For more information about this year's count call Terri Kyser, Chris Engoian or Patty Wilms at 330-424-9573.
