CALCUTTA - The Beavers slayed the Red Dragons.
The Beaver Local girls' basketball team outscored Niles in three of four of play en route to a 52-33 victory Thursday night at the Beaver Dome.

"I'm just so happy for these young ladies," second-year Beaver Local head coach J.R. Walker said. "They work hard. They have not complained or quit in any game. I know it is a big burden off their shoulders. I really feel good for them right now."
Two players scored in double digits to lead the way for the Beavers.
Courtney Ricciardi contributed a team-high 12 points to lead the way, and Tannar Dolhun netted 10 points.
Also for Beaver Local, Danna Talbott tallied eight points, Maranda Kiddey delivered seven points, and Sierra Wright collected five points. Finally, Jade Favre finished with four points, and Allison Kennedy and Sam Kendall each ended up with two points.
"I think we shared the ball," Walker said about the key to his team's success. "We worked the ball around. We looked for the open shot instead of coming down and panicking and shooting the ball. We had balanced scoring. As a coach, you love to see that. That means they are playing as team really well. They have come together."
Beaver Local led 16-9 after the first quarter. The Red Dragons outscored the Beavers, 10-9, in the second stanza to pull within 25-17 at halftime. Beaver Local outscored Niles, 15-10, in the third quarter to take a 40-27 lead into the fourth quarter.
Beaver Local won the JV game, 22-11.
Ravenna Cianni netted four points for the Beavers. The game only last for half because Niles did not have enough players to play a full game.
Beaver Local is scheduled to return to the court Tuesday at Wellsville.
The Tigers will be out for revenge against the Beavers.
"Ed Swogger will have them ready for us," Walker said. "He always does. Wellsville has great fans. They will come out and support them. We are going to have to come down and come at them. We are going to have to play aggressive that's all."
