Salem girls lose on the road

LOUISVILLE- Salem's girls basketball team dropped to 4-11 overall and 3-8 in the Northeastern Buckeye Conference with a 48-29 loss at Louisville on Wednesday.

The Quakers trailed 20-10 at the half and 34-17 after three quarters.

Louisville is 12-5 and 9-1 in the NBC.

Louisville won the jayvee game, 33-26.

Complete stats were not reported.

West Branch 52,

Marlington 34

ALLIANCE -Melinda Trimmer had 16 points as West Branch carved out another Northeastern Buckeye Conference win by topping Marlington 52-34 on Wednesday.

West Branch (14-2, 8-2) has played five of its last six games on the road.

Marlington falls to 1-14, 1-9.

Pavn Heath added 11 points for the Warriors who were up 29-12 at the half.

Erica Johnson had eight rebounds.

West Branch won the jayvee game, 39-6.

The Warriors host Salem on Saturday night.

East Palestine 35, Southern 29

SALINEVILLE - East Palestine blanked Southern Local in the second quarter on the way to a 35-29 win Tuesday night.

Brooke Gedeon led the Bulldogs with 15 points.

East Palestine improves to 3-11 on the season. Southern had its four-game winning streak snapped to move to 8-7.

The Bulldogs went on a 9-0 run in the second quarter to take a 15-10 halftime lead. The lead was trimmed to 20-18 after three quarters. Gedeon scored seven points in the fourth quarter to help the Bulldogs pull away.

Kati Hipsley topped the Indians with 15 points. Rachel Coil collected nine rebounds, three assists and two steals. Emily Jenkins added five rebounds.

Southern won the reserve game, 28-26. Sarah Phillis and Beckah Phillis both scored six points for the Indians.

Both teams will play today with East Palestine hosting Crestview and Southern Local entertaining Leetonia.
