Frack sand silos

January 25, 2013
Salem News

This frack sand terminal about a mile south of Minerva on Arbor Road in Carroll County is planned to be a high capacity operation, according to the website Pop 'N Rail. The Minerva station is operated by D&I and currently has the ability to stage over 500 rail cars with an initial 8,000 tons of silo capacity. Two silos are visible just past the rail cars. The Minerva location is one of 10 destination terminals as many of the sites undergo capital improvements related to the shale boom. The station serves the The Ohi-Rail Corporation railroad company that operates from the Youngstown area, beginning in Minerva and ending in Hopedale, Ohio. Pop 'N Rail said the Minerva terminal is in the heart of some of the more promising Utica shale opportunities. (Salem News photo by Larry Shields)
