KENSINGTON - Glen William Hillyer, 82, of Kensington, passed away Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at the Vista Center in Lisbon.
He was born Sept. 1,1930 in Buchtel, Ohio, to the late William Austin and Amy Jane (Martin) Hillyer.
Glen has lived all of his life in the Kensington area. He retired from Summitville Tile as a tile selector. He loved gardening, playing the guitar and singing. He was an avid sports fan of the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians. Glen served in the United States Army from Sept. 7, 1951 to Aug. 10, 1953. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Glen is survived by his wife, Stella Marie (Anderson) Hillyer, whom he married Sept. 19, 1960. Other survivors are a daughter, Sherri (Glenn) Pitts of Hanoverton; a stepdaughter-in-law, Elizabeth May of Salem; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two step grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were a stepson, Jim May; a brother, Floyd "Jimmie" and a sister, Jean Hillyer Ratliff.
Calling hours for Glen will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at the Maple-Cotton Funeral Home.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Fred May will officiate. Burial will follow at Bethesda Cemetery where full military honors will be held by the American Legion, V.F.W. and D.A.V.
