Drive-thru chicken dinners sold today
SALEM - "Chicken on the Run" drive-thru chicken dinners, will be sold from 4 to 6 p.m. today, until sold out, at the First United Methodist Church, 244 S. Broadway Ave.
The meal includes a stuffed chicken breast, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and a brownie. Cost is $7. As drivers arrive to the (south) entrance of the church, their dinners will be handed to them in their cars.

Fame nominations being accepted
East Liverpool Kent State University at East Liverpool's Wall of Fame Committee is accepting nominations for the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Friends of the Kent State East Liverpool Award.
The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes Kent State graduates for their professional accomplishments and community involvement. The Friends of Kent State University at East Liverpool Award honors individuals who work tirelessly to improve the community and support the university's mission to provide quality education to the tri-state area.

Also during the banquet, the Wall of Fame Committee will announce the recipient of its annual scholarship, and the Joan Gailey Memorial Scholarship will be given in memory of the late Dr. Joan Gailey, a beloved former professor at the East Liverpool campus.

Lifeguard training available at SCC
SALEM - The Salem Community Center will offer a lifeguard training course from March 4-15. Classes will run from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday. Cost is $220 for members and $260 for non-members. Upon completion participants will receive Lifeguard Training, First Aid, Professional Rescuer CPR and AED Essentials certifications. To register call 330-332-5885.
Chili fund raiser planned
NORTH LIMA - Nine cooks will bring their finest chili concoctions to the first-ever chili cook-off to benefit Goodness Grows at the Common Grounds Church. The event is slated 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 23, at 2310 W. South Range Road (the former Mellinger's Nursery).
Funds raised at the cook-off will help furnish newly renovated greenhouses with equipment and adaptive working areas.
"Our goal is to raise $5,000 this year to kick-start our horticultural training work with special needs high school students, working from seed to sale, if our dream of starting a farm stand here comes to fruition," said Greg Bowman, executive director.
The family-friendly event includes chili samples from all contestants and opportunity for younger children to help break open pinatas at noon, 1 and 2 p.m. The cost to participate is $8.75 in advance or $10 at the door. Cooks will serve their chili with condiments to win the approval of attendees who will select the "People's Choice" winner with kidney beans for voting tokens.
A panel of judges including Pat Lowry (from the office of U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan) and Sara Polton (from the office U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson) will evaluate the entries to award three more awards. All winners will receive a framed and mounted commemorative mini-apron sporting the event logo of a dancing jalapeno pepper over a boiling cauldron.

Goodness Grows is a faith-based non-profit organization that works creatively with community groups, congregations, organizations and individuals to seek transformation through agriculture that gives life. The outreach ministry of Common Ground Church Community, it provides agricultural leadership and training to bring about social and economic change. Goodness Grows will host Jubilee Food Justice Mission Trips for high school youth groups this summer, working in urban and rural areas to explore the rich story of local food.
