SALEM - Anthony "Tony" Joseph Gabriel, 82, of Salem, Ohio, died at 6:25 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013 in the emergency room of Salem Community Hospital. He was born Feb. 10, 1930 in Leetonia, the son of the late Joseph and Consetta (Fionda) Gabriel.
Before his retirement, Mr. Gabriel had been employed at N.R.M. as a high lift driver. He was a Leetonia High School graduate and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the St. Paul's Catholic Church.
His wife, Janet (Heinze) Gabriel, whom he married June 19, 1959, survives him along with two sons, Michael Gabriel of Charlotte, North Carolina and James Gabriel of Birmingham, Michigan; two sisters, Carmel Ferry of Columbiana and Mary Marino of Dover, Ohio; two brothers, Guy (Betty) Gabriel of Washingtonville and John (Joyce) Gabriel of Ravenna, Ohio; and two grandchildren.
Two brothers, Ralph and Eugene Gabriel, and two sisters, Angeline Hively and Jean Weber, preceded him in death.
A funeral mass will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013 at the St. Paul Catholic Church with Father Steve Wassie officiating. Calling hours will be held on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
