- Police responded to the 300 block of West Pershing Street after being asked at 9:31 a.m. Friday to assist the Columbiana County Sheriff's Office with checking a residence that has a pending eviction notice in place. The landlord contacted the Sheriff's Office over concerns that a residence had been vacated and the animals left inside. Contact was attempted at the house with no answer. Officers peered through the windows and saw a dog and cat inside. It appeared the residence was still occupied and the animals appeared to be in good health.

- An officer was informed at 8:30 a.m. Friday of some concerns for a couple of children who live in the city and attend Salem city schools.

- A dispute was reported at 7:51 a.m. Friday in the 600 block of East Third Street after a teen son confronted his stepfather over an incident and challenged him to a fight. No physical violence occurred.

- A clerk at a gas station in the 2200 block of East State Street gave an officer a car key at 7:10 a.m. Friday that had been left there earlier in the week. The key was placed in the lost and found.

- Erich Henkel, 29, of 624 Cherry St., was taken into custody at his residence at 1:32 a.m. Friday on an active warrant from the Columbiana County Sheriff's Office for receiving stolen property.

- Police were called at 12:40 a.m. Friday to the Salem Community Hospital emergency department for a dog bite complaint. Mark Conray of Aetna Street reported he was bitten by a loose dog while walking through Centennial Park. He was unsure of the breed, possibly a pit bull. An officer checked the area of the park, but was unable to find the dog.

- Sunnie Canup, 18, of Market Street, Columbiana, was cited for reasonable control after striking a decorative planter on the sidewalk in the 600 block of East State Street at 3:45 p.m. Thursday. The report said she turned from South Lincoln Avenue onto State Street and saw an ambulance coming west on East State Street approaching Lincoln Avenue and went on the sidewalk to avoid an accident.

- Police responded to the 2900 block of East State Street at 6:07 p.m. Thursday for recovered property and took possession of the item in question.

- A woman in the 700 block of North Lincoln Avenue reported at 5:56 p.m. Thursday that a female had picked up her son's medication and it was delivered to her , the mother, but there was an issue with the medication. She was told her options.

- Police responded to the 200 block of East Fourth Street at 5:51 p.m. Thursday to assist a local ambulance company with a call.

- A man in the 1000 block of East State Street reported at 5:39 p.m. Thursday that a friend told him a known male made threatening statements about him. He was concerned it might carry over to his place of employment and to family members. He wanted it documented.

- A man on Salem Alliance Road came to the police station at 5:30 p.m. Thursday to speak to an officer about a situation concerning one of his rental properties in the city. He was told it's a civil matter and was told the proper agency to contact.

- A barking dog was reported in the 800 block of North Ellsworth Avenue at 4:25 p.m. Thursday. A large collie/shepherd mix was found in a fenced area barking and pacing. The owner was told she was at risk for a citation if she doesn't take care of the problem.
