Salem Hospital to offer
free Grandparenting Class
SALEM - Current or soon-to-be grandparents can learn about new approaches to child care during a free Grandparenting Class hosted by Salem Community Hospital's Family Education Program. The class will be offered from 1 to 3 p.m. March 2 at the hospital and includes discussions on infant safety, nutrition and medications. Steak fry scheduled

LISBON - The public is invited to steak fry from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. March 2 at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4111, 210 E. Lincoln Way. Cost is $14 for steak and $9 for chicken. Dinners include salad, baked potato or fresh cut french fries, roll and coffee. A dance follows from 8 to 11 p.m. Music will be provided by The Nobody's. Admission to the dance is $5 or free with the purchase of a meal.
Salem Library's used book sale set March 2 at St. Paul
SALEM - Salem Public Library's semi-annual used book sale, sponsored by Salem Public Library Memorial Fund Association, will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 2 in the gymnasium of St. Paul School, 925 E. Benefit dinner to aid Cole Reed planned March 3
WASHINGTONVILLE - A benefit dinner for 5-year-old Cole Reed of Salem will be held from noon to 6 p.m. March 3 at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5532, 575 S. County Road.
Cole was attacked in an event that left him without his grandmother (his guardian at the time). He had a serious head injury and since then has undergone a second surgery. Proceeds will be used toward Cole's medical expenses and his recovery.
The benefit dinner is sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 5532. Adult tickets are $8, $4 for ages 4 to 10 and free for under 3.

Tri-County Opry to kick off for spring in East Rochester
EAST ROCHESTER - The spring Tri-County Opry kicks off at 7:30 p.m. March 2 at the West Community Center on U.S. Route 30. Special guests include Rodney and Sandy and the Gospel Spirits, the Soehnlen Sisters, Jimmy Howson, Christine McLean, Tom Freeland and Amy Hill Fankhouser. The featured Bluegrass band is the Cricket County Ramblers.

Giant Eagles collect donations, food items for Food Bank
SALEM - Through March 31, customers can help provide food to those in need by tearing off a $1, $5 or $10 coupon at the cash register at any Giant Eagle location in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties. The donation will be added to their grocery bill. Non-perishable food items may also be placed in designated bins at the front of the stores.
Last year, Giant Eagle stores collected $62,722 through Check Out Hunger as part of the Harvest for Hunger campaign, which enabled the Food Bank to distribute $940,830 worth of food to people right here in the Mahoning Valley. Giant Eagle stores in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties have set a goal of $85,000 this year through the donation coupons.
Harvest for Hunger is a month-long food and funds drive that takes place in 21 counties of northeast Ohio and benefits four Feeding America member food banks including Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley. All funds raised and food collected in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties remain in our community to feed local friends and neighbors.
Second Harvest Food Bank distributes food to 153 hunger relief organizations in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties. These organizations include faith-based pantries, homeless shelters and soup kitchens, shelters for battered women and after-school programs. Red Cross aids families after Friday East Liverpool fire
EAST LIVERPOOL - The American Red Cross provided assistance that affected three homes on Railroad Street in East Liverpool Friday morning. The Red Cross is providing food, clothing, seasonal items and overnight accommodations to the two families.
