Banquet to feature sloppy joes

SALEM - Friends of the Banquet will sponsor the Fourth Thursday Banquet in Salem from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Memorial Building. The menu offers chicken noodle soup, sloppy joes, cheesy potatoes, baked beans, fresh fruit and vegetables, and ice cream. Additional sponsors are needed. Salem Eagles plan fish fry

SALEM - The weekly fish fry will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Eagles Club on North Ellsworth Avenue. Chicken dinners will also be available. Cost is $8.50 per person.

A dance is scheduled from 9 p.m. to midnight Saturday. Music will be provided by Manhattan.

Fish fry set at Saxon Club

SALEM - The public is invited to a fish fry from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Saxon Club, 1980 Newgarden Road. Cost is $11 for adults and $5.50 for children. Dinners include a choice of fried or baked ocean cod or breaded pork chops. Carryouts are available after 4:30 p.m. at 330-222-1770.

'Seussical' performed at United

HANOVERTON - United Local High School will present "Seussical the Musical" at 7:30 p.m. March 1 and 2 and at 2:30 p.m. March 3. Tickets are on sale in the high school office (330-223-7102). Cost is $8 for adults and $6 for students and senior citizens. On March 2 the cast will host a birthday party for Dr. Seuss at 5:30 p.m. in the junior high gym with face painting, Dr. Seuss books being read by the main characters, a Seuss craft, snacks and The Whos. Cost is $5 per child.

Spaghetti dinner set Saturday

EAST ROCHESTER - An all-you-can-eat spaghetti and meatball dinner will be served from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the New Alexander Christian Church. Cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children up to age 10. Carryouts are available.

Pork chops served in Winona

WINONA - A pork chop dinner will be served from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday in the Family Life Center at the Winona Friends Church on Whinnery Road. The meal includes a pork chop, mashed potatoes, vegetables, rolls and dessert. Cost is $8. Carryouts are available. For more information call the church at 330-222-0200.

Country jams back in Rogers

ROGERS - Country music jams are returning next month at the Rogers Community Auction dining hall. The public is invited from 6 to 9 p.m. March 3 and 17.

Breakfast set at Salem AMVETS

SALEM - AMVETS Post 45 and Sons breakfast will be served from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday at 750 S. Broadway Ave.

Singing Weavers to perform

GREENFORD - The community is invited to a free concert with The Singing Weavers titled Let's Shine Together! at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Greenford Lutheran Church. Refreshments will be served after the concert.

Cole Reed benefit planned

WASHINGTONVILLE - The spaghetti dinner benefit for Cole Reed will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5532, 575 S. County Line Road. Dinner will include pasta and meatballs, bread, salad, dessert and a beverage. Tickets are $8 for adults, $4 for ages 4 to 10 and free for under 3. Carryouts are available. Driving classes set at United

HANOVERTON - AAA driving classes start on March 4 at United Local High School. Forms are available in the guidance office. Home-schooled students may attend. For more information call 330-692-0763.

Leetonia 1951 breakfast planned

LEETONIA - The Leetonia High School Class of 1951 plans to meet for breakfast at 9 a.m. March 5 at the Salem Hills Golf and Country Club.

'Soup to Go' offered

WASHINGTONVILLE - "Soup to Go" will be available on March 6 at the Robbins United Methodist Church, 100 High St. Homemade soups in different varieties will be available at the drive-thru from 3 to 5 p.m. Quarts starts $6 each.

Getting Crafty class to meet

SALEM - Spa-Crafty is the theme for the Getting Crafty class for adults 18 and older to be held at 6:30 p.m. March 11 in Salem Public Library's Quaker Room. The evening will include creating a fragrant body scrub, decorating a storage container for the scrub and being treated to a fragrant foot soak. Materials for the crafts will be provided free of cost. Each attendee interested in enjoying an individual foot soak must bring a towel. Registration is required at the adult circulation desk or by calling 330-322-0042, option #2.

Salem 1956 lunch planned

SALEM - The Salem High School Class of 1956 will meet for a luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 pm. March 13 at the Salem Hills Golf and Country Club. Spouses and friends are welcome.

Green FD breakfast set

GREENFORD - The Green Township Fire Department's pancake breakfast will be held from 6:30 to 11 a.m. March 16 at the Green Township Fire Station, 12210 Lisbon Road. Proceeds are earmarked to be used for fire and EMS equipment. Cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children and free for 5 and under.

Dress Donation Drive continues

BELOIT - The seventh annual Project Prom's Dress Donation Drive continues through the first few weeks in March. Used prom dresses may be dropped off at West Branch or Salem High schools. Other types of contributions are also welcome. Individuals, organizations, or businesses interested in supporting Project Prom are encouraged to contact Jill DeRamo at West Branch High School at 330-938-4406.

All girls are welcome to participate in the program, regardless of where they live or what school they attend. Project Prom will hold its distribution date from noon to 4 p.m. March 23 at the Salem Schools Administration Building in Salem to pick out a free prom dress and possibly leave with other free services to make their prom a memorable one (shoes, gift certificates for hair, nails, make-up, flowers). Free items/services will also be provided by Keith Davis from Create-A-Color Shoes and the Casal Aveda Institute.

'Rainmaker' auditions planned

YOUNGSTOWN - The Victorian Players has announced auditions for "The Rainmaker" by N. Richard Nash are scheduled at 2 p.m. March 16 and 7 p.m. March 18 at the theater, 702 Mahoning Ave. Casting requirements are for five men ages 18 and up and one woman age 18-30. All auditionees will be asked to read from the script. Performances will take place June 7-23. For more information call director Sam Luptak Jr. at 330-207-3483.
