MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Victor Louis DeBacco Sr., 91, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, at his home in Memphis, Tenn.
He was born March 23, 1921, in Youngstown, Ohio. While serving in the Army, he was stationed at the 2nd Army Headquarters in Memphis where he met Bernadine Wasson who became his wife in 1952.
He worked for Gordon's Transports as a public accountant until the early '80s. Then he worked for the bankruptcy courts and Film Transit until he retired in the early '90s.
He was a kind, generous man who would do anything for his family. Victor was a devout Catholic, and parishioner of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in East Memphis.
The 8 a.m. daily Mass as well as those who regularly attended gave him strength and support throughout his life. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed going to the casinos in Tunica, Ms., and just thoroughly enjoyed life.
Victor was preceded in death by his parents Venanzio and Agata DiBacco; his wife Bernadine Wasson DeBacco; and his brothers Armand, Joseph, John, Sam and Ernest.
He is survived by his sister, Libby DeCrow of Salem, Ohio; his brother in-law Harry Shivers (Dorothy) of Memphis; his three children Louie DeBacco of Memphis, Maria DeBacco of Memphis and Mark Wasson DeBacco of Castaic, Calif.; three grandchildren, Maria Furlong (Paul) of Memphis, Angela DeBacco of Atlanta, and Vincent DeBacco of Memphis; and one great-granddaughter, Lyla Furlong of Memphis. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews across the country.
He will be deeply missed by family and friends.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28 at Canale Funeral Directors with rosary beginning at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 1 at Catholic Church of the Holy Spirit. Entombment will be at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
