Lucy Marva Clark Anderson

NORTH CANTON - Lucy Marva Clark Anderson, 90, of North Canton, passed away on Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, in the comfort of her home.

She was born in Haviland, Kan., on Sept. 17, 1922, to the late Scott and Grace (Coppock) Clark.

Lucy was employed as an administrative assistant with the Evangelical Friends Church-Eastern Region for 12 years, retiring in 1991. Prior to her work with the church, she was employed in the public relations office at Malone University for seven years. Lucy dearly loved First Friends Church, where she and her husband, Alvin, taught the Go-Getters Sunday school class. She appeared as Dona Lucy to tell mission stories to children at VBS. Lucy was the Alumnus of the Year at Barclay College in Haviland, Kan., where she and Alvin had also taught in the 1950's. She was an accomplished pianist and had a lovely soprano voice.

Lucy authored a book, "Checkpoints Along Life's Journey: My Life in Eight Developing Countries" chronicling the story of her adventurous life. She and Alvin lived in Colombia, Ecuador and the Dominican Republic, serving with the USIS and AID, then taught in Nigeria, Burundi, Bolivia and Guatemala. She had a heart for people and the world.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her four siblings.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Alvin L. Anderson, who she met while they were teaching in Costa Rica; daughter, Marva (Clark) Hoopes; two sons, Paul (Carla) Anderson and Stan (Cathy) Anderson; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in First Friends Church, 5455 Market Ave. N. Canton, Ohio 44714, with Pastor Stan Hinshaw officiating. Burial will be in Damascus Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Reed Funeral Home, North Canton Chapel, 801 Pittsburg Ave. NW, and one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. in the church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Alvin and Lucy Anderson Scholarship Fund at Barclay College, 607 Kingman Ave. Haviland, Kan. 67059.
