James “Jim” W. Minamyer

BELOIT - James "Jim" W. Minamyer, 75, of Beloit, Ohio, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at his home following a sudden illness.

He was born March 9, 1937, in Salem, a son of the late James M. and Ethel (Parsons) Minamyer.

Jim graduated from Salem High School and earned a mechanical engineering degree from Fenn College in Cleveland before receiving his master's in business administration from the University of Pittsburgh. He began his career at the Electric Furnace Company, and was invited to Comstock Engineering in Pittsburgh to direct its new venture in continuous steel strip processing lines. He eventually founded his own company, Comstock-2, in Salem to consult globally on galvanizing processes. He introduced several innovations that transformed galvanizing in Asia. He was a member of the International Gutter Club, a jovial club of American expatriates who rebuilt the Italian steel industry in the 1960s and met annually upon their return. Jim also owned and operated the Hyde-A-Way Golf Course since 1977.

Survivors include his companion, Paula Shubock of Beloit and Pittsburgh; a daughter, Robin Paynter of Salem; two sons, Mike Minamyer of Salem and Matt (Renee) Minamyer of Richmond, Texas; a sister, Jayne Bergman of Austintown; a brother, Fred (Gwen) Minamyer of Salem; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A son, Ronny Minamyer and a granddaughter, Anna, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery in Salem.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Noah's Lost Ark Animal Sanctuary, 8424 Bedell Road, Berlin Center, Ohio 44401; or the Salem High School Alumni Association, 330 E. State St., Salem, Ohio 44460.
