United Commercial Travelers Egg Hunt winners listed

SALEM - Salem United Commercial Travelers of America held its Easter egg hunt on March 30 at Centennial Park. Winners of the chocolate Easter bunnies were:

Ages 2-3: Alivia Ruth, Faith Baddeley, Shelby Cross, Gionna Lenigar, Jada Lynn Gbur, Eli James.

Ages 4-5: Abby Sturgell, Isabel Martig, Alex DeRienzo, Joshua Mayher, Hayden Poling, Brody Morrison.

Ages 6-7: Patrick Bryan, Hayley Thomas, Cheyenne Hamilton, J.T. Sawhill, Cameron Kelm, Autum Heninger.

Salem Community Foundation annual meeting set Thursday

SALEM - The Salem Community Foundation's annual meeting, open to all members of the foundation, begins at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Salem Community Center, 1098 N. Ellsworth Ave. The agenda includes the review of the foundation's 2012 financial statements and election of officers.

Anyone can become a lifetime member of the foundation with a contribution of at least $100. Contributions may be made to the Salem Community Foundation Inc., P. O. Box 553, Salem, Ohio 44460 and earmarked for a specific program of interest to the donor.

North Course at Mill Creek Golf Course to open friday

YOUNGSTOWN - The North Course at Mill Creek Golf Course will open for the season at 8 a.m. Friday. The Hole 37 snack bar, as well as the pro shop, will also be open for business. The South Course will open as weather permits. To reserve a tee time call 330-740-7112.

Fish, chicken fry planned

Friday at Salem Eagles

SALEM - A fish fry will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Salem Eagles Club, 1884 N. Ellsworth Ave. Chicken dinners will also be available. Cost is $8.50 each.

A cornhole tournament kicks off at 2 p.. Saturday. The entry fee is $5. Dancing to the music of Rough Edges follows from 9 p.m. to midnight. The kitchen will be open from 8 to 10 p.m.

SALEM - The Salem High School Class of 1972 is invited to breakfast at 9 a.m. Saturday at Salem Hills Golf and Country Club.

Spaghetti dinner offered in East Rochester Saturday

EAST ROCHESTER - The public is invited to a spaghetti and meatball dinner from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the New Alexander Christian Church. Cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children.

LISBON - Steak and chicken dinners will be served from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4111, 210 E. Lincoln Way. Dinners include salad, baked potato or fresh cut fries, roll and coffee. A dance follows from 8 to 11 p.m. Music will be provided by Cowboy Up. Homecoming Queen contest

LEETONIA -Nikki Halverstadt, daughter Terry and Karen McElroy of Leetonia, has been selected as a finalist in Ohio's 33rd annual Homecoming Queen competition to be held Sunday at the Dayton Marriott in Dayton. She is the Leetonia High School homecoming queen. Ohio's 2013 homecoming queen will receive a cash scholarship plus an all expense paid trip to the national finals to compete with the queens from the other states for America's Homecoming Queen.

America's Homecoming Queen Inc. is a non-profit organization promoting education, educational travel and community service in all 50 states. Halverstadt will also be competing for Ohio's favorite homecoming queen. To vote for her for Ohio's favorite homecoming queen go to

Banquet in Salem to feature chicken and noodles

SALEM - The Banquet in Salem will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Memorial Building. Next week's sponsor is the First Presbyterian Church. The menu offers potato soup, chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean almondine, salad, fresh fruit and vegetables and assorted pies. Sponsors are needed. WASHINGTONVILLE -Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5532 will hold nominations and elections of officers for 2013-14 at 6 p.m. April 11. Its mens auxiliary will hold its nominations and elections at 1 p.m. April 7. All members are urged to attend. The officers will assume their duties on June 30 following the installation of new State Commander Keith Jeffers, in Perrysburg.

Salem Hunting Club's Iden-Iler Memorial Scholarship offered

SALEM - Students applying for the Salem Hunting Club's Iden-Iler Memorial Scholarship must be eligible for graduation as a high school senior, or a student in good standing if currently enrolled in college. The type of further education selected may be at a junior college or vocational trade school majoring in a field of study in agriculture, wildlife conservation, biology or environmental science. The selection will be based on scholastic record, future plans, motivation, leadership and financial need. Participants are able to re-apply for this scholarship all four years of college.
