Edward Glenn Emch II

NILES -Edward Glenn Emch II, of Niles, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2013, at Hospice House in Poland.

On Dec. 3, 1952, Edward and Dorothy Jenkins-Emch welcomed into the world their fourth child, Ed.

Ed was a talented individual, who taught government at Howland High School since the late 90's. Prior to that, he was an insurance agent for The Prudential Insurance Company of America. While with Prudential, Ed was a member of the prestigious "Million Dollar Club."

Ed was a proud graduate of Salem High School. He was a class officer of his 1971 graduating class and also represented the school at Buckeye Boys State. He also was a graduate of Youngstown State University, achieved a master's degree in education.

Sports were always an integral part of Ed's life. While at Salem, Ed achieved All State Honors in football and was heavily recruited by Syracuse, WVU, and several Big 10 teams. He also was an outstanding baseball player, lettering in that sport for the Quakers.

Ed used his success in both of those sports while at Howland High School. For many years, he was the assistant coach on Chuck Potashnik's Tiger baseball teams and helped lead that team to a number of league titles. He also was for many years on the coaching staff of Dick Angle, helping to develop many of the players who contributed to the success of the Tiger football program.

Ed is survived by his children, Deanna "Nan" (Dr. George Scott) Wilson of Salem, Edward III (Heather) of Harrison City, Pa., and Dustin Emch of Newnan, Ga.; grandchildren Emma and Jack Wilson of Salem. He is also survived by his siblings, Ken Emch of Austintown and Shirley Caparanis of Cortland.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Larry Emch.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 26, 2013, at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard.

Family will receive relatives and friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be held at Girard City Cemetery.
