SALEM - The First National Bank will open a new office at 2424 E. State St. in front of the Salem Plaza right after Labor Day, according to Andy Estock, vice president of business banking for the company.
"The building (sale) was closed on last Tuesday," Estock said Monday, adding that the former Society National Bank building will re-open as a full service retail banking office.
The bank is based in Orrville and has operated a Salem mortgage office at 1070 East State St. for a year.
"It's been well received," Estock said.
Salem is the furthest east of the 14 branch offices of FNB and the location in a building that formerly housed another bank years ago is a good fit, Estock said.
The building had a Continental Drive address when it was last occupied and Housing, Planning and Zoning Officer Pat Morrissey said with the front of the building facing East State Street it was given an address on that street. He said it would also accommodate the businesss.
Other than updates to the drive-up windows, an ATM and room for four teller windows, the building needs a minimum of work, Morrissey said.
The building has two entrances off of East State Street.
The office will employ the equivalent of seven full-time people, Estock said, noting they will be adding three full-time people.
Anything customers expect from a full-service bank will be offered including mobile, online banking, remote deposits, sweep accounts, finance works and phone banking.
