Leetonia man backs into creek at village restaurant

May 5, 2013
Salem News

Carl Deffenbaugh Sr., of Leetonia, was not injured when he accidentally drove his Chevy Impala backward into a creek Saturday near the Iron Rails Cafe around 6:45 p.m. Leetonia Police Officer Dan Soules said Deffenbaugh was backing out of a parking space at the cafe when he struck a vehicle driven by Dan Hicks, also of Leetonia. Upon impact, Deffenbaugh accidentally stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake and drove backwards into the creek. Soules said Hicks helped Deffenbaugh get out of his car before Leetonia EMS arrived. No one was injured and no citations were issued since the crash occurred on private property, Soules said. The Leetonia Fire Department and Steve's Towing also responded. (Salem News photo by Katie Schwendeman)
