SALEM - Donald R. Pittman, 80, of Salem, died at 2:50 a.m. Monday, May 27, 2013, at his home of leukemia with his family at his side.
He was born May 17, 1933, in Paden City, W. Va., son of the late James A. and Oma F. (Jacobs) Pittman.
Before his retirement he had worked in maintenance for 15 years at Transue Williams. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
His wife of 51 years, Judith (Smith) Pittman, whom he married June 11, 1962, survives him along with daughters, Gay Dawn (Eddy) Wolff of Rootstown, Ohio, Kimberly Law of Columbiana, and Dawna (Steven) Schreiber of Lisbon; a sister, Betty J. Postlewait of Caldwell, Ohio; and four grandchildren, Eddy (Shannon) Wolff Jr., Sara (Keith) Porter, Samantha (Brandon) Burkey and Matthew Spack; and seven great-grandchildren, Angelina Burkey, Timothy Burkey, Maverik Spack, Shylo Porter, Emma Wolff, Lily Wolff and Tehya Porter.
His parents; a brother, Dale Pittman; two sisters, Mildred Summers and Ruth Shutler; and a son-in-law, Ray Law, preceded him in death.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2013, at the Phillips Christian Church, 35459 Salem-Grange Road, Salem, with Pastor Sheldon Cosma officiating. A military service provided by the Salem Honor Guard will be held at 2 p.m. at the church with fellowship and dinner to follow.
