Breaking ground at Reilly

June 17, 2013
Salem News

Ground was recently broken for the Salem Preservation Society's reproduction of the old north wall and ticket booth that previously stood in front of Reilly Stadium. The reconstruction of the historic wall will include a dedication area with granite benches, trees and memorial bricks and pavers. Completion of this portion of the newly-remodeled entrance is expected in mid-August. Shown digging in are from left, Steve Bailey, Salem Board of Education liaison to SPS and grounds committee chairman; David K. Schwartz, SPS. vice-president; Keith Berger, SPS president; and B.J. Abrams, Reilly Wall project committee member. During this phase of construction Reilly Stadium track walkers must enter through the front entrance to the stadium on East Pershing -not the usual entrance off the parking area. Memorial bricks and pavers are still available: $100 4"x8" brick paver with up to three lines of text; $150 8"x8" brick paver with up to five lines of text. To order on line go to ttp://www.salempreservationsociety.org/reilly-project-bricks or contact Keith Berger at 330-337-3341 or Karen Carter at 330-332-4959.(Submitted photo)
