Free blood pressure screenings offered

CANFIELD- Free blood pressure, pulse and oxygen saturation readings will be provided by Salem Area Visiting Nurse Association from 1 to 3 p.m. today at the Canfield Public Library.

Crestview 2015 afterprom meeting set

COLUMBIANA - The Crestview 2015 organizational meeting for afterprom is scheduled from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the middle school pavilion.

Fish fry planned at Columbiana Legion

COLUMBIANA - An all-you-can-eat fish fry will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at American Legion Post 290. Cost is $10 for adults and $4 for children.

Hard drives destroyed at Salem Library

SALEM - From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 22, area businesses and residents looking for a way to safely and securely destroy data stored on old hard drives will be able to bring their hard drives to the Salem Public Library's parking lot at 821 E. State St. where the Protect-N-Shred Company of Cortland will provide a hard drive destruction service. Hard drives must be removed from electronic devices and will be destroyed on-site at no charge to the Salem community. No paper materials will be shredded at this event. Salem 1962 lunch set at Salem Hills

SALEM - The Salem High School Class of 1962 plans to meet for lunch at 11:30 a.m. June 26 at the Salem Hills Golf and Country Club.

Salem 1954 breakfast planned

SALEM - The Salem High School Class of 1954 will meet for breakfast at 9 a.m. June 27 at the Salem Hills Golf and Country Club.

Fairfield Ruritan golf scramble set

COLUMBIANA -The eighth annual Fairfield Ruritan four-person golf scramble is slated June 29 at Valley Golf Course. Tee times are from 1to 4 p.m.

The entry fee is $30 per person and includes green fees, a riding cart per foursome, grilled pork tenderloin buffet dinner, and prizes. New for this year is a $5,000 cash prize for a hole-in-one on the 150 yard #4. To enter call 330-482-9464.

Appleblossom/Applebud applications due

LISBON - The deadline is approaching for turning in applications to run for the 2013 Johnny Appleseed Festival Little Miss Appleblossom or Little Mr. Applebud. Applications have to be returned to the Lisbon Area Chamber of Commerce Office no later than June 28.

Children must live in Columbiana County and be between the ages of 4 and 9 by Sept. 21. Applications and rules are available on the chamber office website at lisbonareachamber.com or may be picked up at the chamber office at 120 N. Market St.; 330-424-1803 or 330-424-9622.

Leetonia 1949 lunch scheduled

LEETONIA - Leetonia High School Class of 1949 plans to meet for lunch noon July 3 at the Salem Hills Golf and Country Club.

Ward Memorial Golf Tournament planned

SALEM - Alchemy Acres Animal Sanctuary will conduct its fourth annual Gavin Ward Memorial Golf Tournament on July 20 at Olde Dutch Mill Golf Course, 2745 Grandview Road, Lake Milton.

The registration fee is $65 per person and includes a golf cart, beverages, breakfast, lunch and dinner. Teams that register by July 15 will receive a dozen golf balls per team.

There will be a Chinese auction with sports autographed items from players such as Maurkice Pouncey, John Simon, Terry Francona and Nolan Ryan.

Prizes will be featured on each hole. The grand prize is a three- year lease on a 2013 Chevy Cruze which would be awarded to a player that achieves a hole-in-one on the eighth hole. Prizes are donated by Sweeney Chevrolet.

The golf tournament is named in honor of Gavin Ward, a special young volunteer at Alchemy Acres who passed away at the age of 12. Proceeds benefit the pets at Alchemy Acres Animal Sanctuary in Salem. For more information call the sanctuary at 330-332-4897.

Humanities Council speaker at library l

COLUMBIANA - Ohio Humanities Council Speaker Bradley T. Lepper will speak from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. July 16 in the Salchow Room at the Columbiana Public Library. His presentation is titled "The Great Hopewell Road: Ohio's Ancient Superhighway." Registration is required in person or by calling the library at 330-482-5509.

Salem 1968 scholarship benefit set

SALEM - The Salem High School Class of 1968s' Scholarship Fund Benefit performance of "Hairspray" begins at 7 p.m. Aug. 8 at Salem Community Theatre. Tickets are $12 and available by contacting Chuck Straub at 330-332-5265.

Amateur radio field day set Saturday

SALEM - The Salem Area Amateur Radio Association will host its yearly amateur radio field day on Saturday at pavilion eight at Waterworth Memorial Park off Superior Avenue. Set-up begins at 10 a.m. followed by operations at 2 p.m. The public is invited. There also will be operations at the Emergency Management Agency in Lisbon along with a set-up in front of the Walmart in Calcutta.
