EAST PALESTINE - Edith V. Powell, 89, of state Route 14, died at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Boardman Campus, where she had been a patient.
Born May 18, 1924, in Columbiana, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Florence (Weaver) Westlake.
Prior to her retirement in 1989, she had been employed with the Salem Community Hospital in the laundry department.
Her husband, Harold Powell, whom she married May 8, 1941, preceded her in death on Dec. 9, 2002.
Survivors include two sons, Harold Powell of Petersburg and Donald Powell at home; a daughter, Carolyn Yauman of New Springfield; a sister, Carol Turney of New Waterford; a brother, Carl Westlake of Andalusia, Ala.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Petersburg with Pastor Aimee Raymond officiating. Burial will be in the Salem Reformed Cemetery in Unity.
