By KEVIN HOWELL , Salem News

LEETONIA- The Leetonia school board is seeking candidates to fill an impending vacancy on the board.

Board President Doug Jones has submitted a letter of resignation effective Aug. 1 due to moving out of the district. Vice President Kurt Jennings said the board will likely appoint a replacement at the August board meeting.

If a replacement is appointed before Aug. 8, the term will expire at the end of this year. If a replacement is appointed after that date, the term will expire at the end of 2015, Jennings said.

Jones has served on the board since January 2000.

Those interested may submit, in writing, a letter of interest to the Leetonia Board of Education Treasurer Jennifer Coldsnow by July 12. Applicants may submit their letter in person or by mail: Leetonia Exempted Village School District, Attn: Jennifer Coldsnow, 450 Walnut Street, Leetonia OH 44431.
