Lisbon BOE members announce election plans

LISBON - Two Lisbon school board members announced their bids for re-election, while a third announced his plan to run for a different office in November.

Board member Gary Peruchetti said he sees a need for experienced board members as the district continues to navigate the challenges in front of it, including financial issues as Lisbon was the only school system in the county not to receive an increase in state funding over the next two years.

Peruchetti thanked the community for its support and said he sees some of the district's priority issues improving, such as providing the best education possible in a safe and drug-free environment.

Another board member, Jeff Elliott announced his intention to run for a vacant seat on Lisbon Village Council instead of seeking re-election to the school board. He thanked his fellow board members, the staff and teachers he has had the privilege of working with during his time on the school board.

"I feel the school district has been moved forward in my tenure," Elliott said. "But my personal opinion is that board members become complacent after a couple terms, and new ideas are needed to move this district forward at the pace that is needed and now being demanded by ever changing times."

Although he was not at Tuesday's meeting, board member Eugene Gallo issued a press release announcing his candidacy.

"I am taking this opportunity to announce my intention to run for re-election to the Lisbon School Board of Education," Gallo wrote, adding he is proud of the Lisbon school district and blessed to work with the board members, students, parents, teachers and administrators.

"The future is bright for the district, but the challenges ahead are many," Gallo continued. "If re-elected I promise to give my best efforts on behalf of Lisbon Schools."
