COLUMBIANA- 34west Theater premieres its all-new puttin'-on-the-ritz musical, "Speakin' Easy" July 31 through Aug. 3, Sept. 18 through 21 and Oct. 23 through 26 at Das Dutch Village Inn, with special weekday matinees included. Acme Hot Air Balloon Company is whirling with lovesick receptionists and one dimwitted gangster in this glitzy new comedy, featuring timeless melodies from the 1920s and 1930s.
A homage to classic Broadway musicals and movies, "Speakin' Easy" is riddled with whimsical stock characters and classic radio tunes such as "Puttin on the Ritz" and "Charleston."
"The music in this show just makes you feel good," said Artistic Director Jeff Querin. "The songs are timeless and lovely and the comedy is spot on as always."

34west's popularity over the years has grown as it continues to premier its original works in Mahoning and Columbiana counties and then tour the northeast United States. Many performances for "Speakin Easy" are already beginning to sell out at Das Dutch Village Inn.
In October the avant guarde troupe will run the shoe in New York City at Stage 72, an off-Broadway theater house.
"It's a great opportunity for us and fun way of showing the rest of the country the art scene coming out of Youngstown," Querin said.
No stranger to the big apple, 34west sent its 2010 production of "My Name is Ruth" to the New York International Fringe Festival and received the Playwriting Award.
"I think New Yorkers enjoy our uplifting take on theater," Querin said. "Everyone needs to have a good laugh and have a good time."
