PALM HARBOR, Fla. - Walter F. Deming, 102, of Palm Harbor, Fla., formerly of Salem, Ohio, and LaJolla, Calif., died Monday, July 15, 2013, in Florida.
He was born Dec. 21, 1910, in Salem, son of the late George Ramsden and Helen Lee Deming.
Mr. Deming was a 1928 graduate and class president of Salem High School and a 1932 graduate of Cornell University where he was a member of Psi Upsilon Fraternity.
Walter was the president of Deming Pump in Salem and owned the L-K Building south of town. He was a past member of the Rotary in both Salem and LaJolla, a lifetime member of the Salem Historical Society and a founding member of the Salem Community Foundation. He was also a past member of the Salem Golf Club, Salem Country Club, Farmington County Club in Charlottesville, Va., and member and past president of the LaJolla Country Club.
He was a member of both the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour and the St. James Episcopal Church in LaJolla and was an avid golfer.
Survivors include his son, Walter F. "Tony" (Maryjane) Deming of Palm Harbor, Fla.; two step grandchildren, Jeffrey A. Peters of Treasure Island, Fla., and Kim Drizis of Clearwater, Fla.; four great-grandchildren of Florida; and two nieces.
His wife, Jayne McKelvey Deming, preceded him in death Oct. 19, 1981.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 21, 2013, at the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour in Salem with Pastor Kip Colegrove officiating.
Calling hours will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home in Salem. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery.
