SEBRING - James Paul Smith, 89, died at 7:40 a.m. Tuesday.
Born Jan. 1, 1924, in Alliance, he was the son of the late James Corbett and Isabella (Cobbs) Smith.
Mr. Smith was honorably discharged from the Navy and Marines as a World War II veteran on Jan. 13, 1946. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, American Area and Asiatic-Pacific Medals. He was a member of the Alliance Friends Church and retired from the Alliance Machine Company where he was a machinist.
Survivors include his wife, Grace Edna Myers, whom he married Oct. 9, 1948; three daughters, Candi (Tom) Smith Fritsch, Judy (Ed) Smith Felton Kibler, Jeanette (Tom) Smith Tanner; a son, James Paul Smith Jr.; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two brothers David Smith and Herbert A. Smith; and four sisters, Evelyn Shreve, Dorothy Chapman, Patricia Ruhl and Rose Marie Hughes.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Alliance Friends Church.
Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the church and the half hour prior to the service on Saturday. Burial will take place in Highland Memorial Park.
