LISBON - This year's candidates for Little Mr. Applebud and Little Miss Appleblossom will be joined by winners of the past.
The 2013 Johnny Appleseed Festival, sponsored by the Lisbon Area Chamber of Commerce, will take place Sept. 21-22. As with each year, children between the ages of 4 and 9 will be competing for the titles of Little Mr. Applebud and Little Miss Appleblossom.
This year, 16 children will be competing for the titles. Each participant earns a vote for the title by each penny that is in his or her can placed throughout town. The boy and girl with the most pennies will be crowned Little Mr. Applebud and Little Miss Appleblossom respectively. The participants will have breakfast at 9 a.m. that Saturday at the Columbiana County Career and Technical Center, and then ride in the annual Grand Parade, beginning at 11 a.m. followed by the crowning on stage.
However, this year's participants will not be the only ones riding, according to coordinator Becky Mollenkopf.
"This year, we are doing something new," Mollenkopf said. "We are inviting past winners to participate in the parade as well."
The Chamber, however, needs the public's help.
"Because we don't have records of past participants, we are looking for people who have won in the past or anyone who knows someone who won to help us," says Mollenkopf.
Interested parties, whether past winners or someone who knows a past winner, must pre-register to participate and can find out more information by calling the Lisbon Area Chamber of Commerce at 330-424-1803.
