LISBON - Dr. John Eldon Jones, 99, formerly of North Market Street, died at 11:05 a.m. Sunday at the Whetstone Care Center in Columbus.
Dr. Jones was born Feb.16, 1914 in Jacksonville, a son of the late Pearley Eldon and Isabell (Smith) Jones.
He graduated from Lancaster High School in 1932, the Ohio State University, College of Optometry in 1936 and did his post graduate work at the University of Chicago 1937-1938.
He had an Optometric Practice in Lisbon from June 1939 until his retirement in July 1989. He was a member of the New Lisbon Presbyterian Church and former member of the Trinity United Presbyterian Church.
He served in the U.S. Navy as an officer during WWII.
His wife, Louise (Finley) Jones, whom he married June 24, 1938, preceded him in death May 9, 2006.
He is survived by his daughters, Janet (Peter) Casper of Phoenix, Ariz., and Leslie (Paul) Weber of Columbus; son, Craig (Stephanie) Jones of Columbus; sister, Dorothy Daughters of Newark, Ohio; brother, Larry Jones of Shorewood, Ill.; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark R. Wilds officiating, Burial will follow in the Lisbon Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from noon until 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
