Former Salem resident pleads guilty to sexual battery for relationship with student

YOUNGSTOWN - A former Salem resident pleaded guilty in Mahoning County to sexual battery for a consensual sexual relationship with a student while he was a teacher at Boardman High School.

Joseph Cleghorn, 34, Stoney Creek Court, Boardman, pleaded guilty last week to prosecutor's information. He is set to be sentenced Nov. 4.

According to the Youngstown Vindicator, Cleghorn's charges involve a relationship with a student, which began when she was 16 years old in 2007 and continued until midway through her senior year in 2009. His teaching license is currently suspended and he resigned at Boardman High School effective the end of last school year.
