"Little Vampires" will be presented Saturday

SALEM - Walt Disney's "Little Vampires" movie starts at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Humane Society Animal Resource Complex, 721 E. Pidgeon Road.

Cost is $3. Children and dogs are welcome, with a one leashed dog per family limit.

Bottled water and snacks will be available for purchase. Attendees are asked to brink their own chairs or blankets for seating.

CPR, first aid class offered Oct. 15

EAST LIVERPOOL - Ohio Valley Home Health Services Inc. (OVHHS) will host an American Heart Association first aid and cardio pulmonary resuscitation certification class from 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Community Education Center at 15679 state Route 170.

The CPR portion of the class is slated from 6 to 8 p.m. followed by first aid from 8 to 10 p.m. Classes may be taken together for the full four hours or separately. The fee is $40 for both CPR and first aid or $20 each.

The first aid and CPR course will be offered monthly to area residents in need of the certification for either professional or personal reasons. To register for the course contact Megan Shimmel, director of community education, at 330-385-2333 or info@ovhhs.com.

Breast cancer awareness lecture planned

ALLIANCE - Radiologist Frederick Meoli, DO will present a breast cancer awareness lecture at noon Oct. 18 in Alliance Community Hospital conference room 1-A at 200 E. State St. A question and answer session follows.

A light lunch will be provided. Reservations for this free event are required by calling 330-596-7575 before Oct. 17.

Monster Dash 2013 scheduled?Oct. 20

HANOVERTON -Monster Dash 2013, the ultimate Halloween race/walk, will be held on Oct. 20 at United Local High School.

Participants are asked to dress up in their favorite costume and register in person at 11:30 a.m. with six waves starting at 1 p.m., two mini-monster dash waves at 4 and 4:15 p.m.

Cost is $30 per person, $25 per person in teams of four, and $15 for mini-monsters (those under 12). Awards will be given to the top finishers in each age bracket and also prizes for best costume.

SCC hosting complimentary jazz concert

SALEM - The Salem Community Center is inviting the public to a complimentary jazz concert from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 22 featuring the Jack Halkides Quintet with special guests including Peggy Coyle.

Columbiana's Christmas Parade is Nov. 22

COLUMBIANA -The Columbiana Area Chamber of Commerce will kick off the holiday season on Nov. 22 with its annual Christmas parade at 6:30 p.m. on South Main Street.

Light Up Night on the Square is scheduled and sounds of the season will be provided by Heartland Middle School Choir.

After the parade, photos with Santa are available at the Main Street Theater ($5).

The opening of the "Joy of Christmas" drive-thru holiday light show follows at Firestone Park, and a free concert at the Main Street Theater by the New Silver Eagle Band, etc. For a complete list of events visit www.columbianachamber.com.

Saxon Club hosting 'A Taste of Germany'

SALEM - The Salem Saxon Club at 1980 Newgarden Road is having "A Taste of Germany" reservation-only dinner on Nov. 8. Seatings are open at 5, 6 and 7:30 p.m. Cost is $15 per person. The menu consists of bean puree and green bean soup, wilted lettuce, homemade bread, bratwurst, sauerkraut and pigs, pork schnitzel, spetzle, German potato salad and hunklich/kuchen. German beer and wine are available.

Hospice Training Program seeks volunteers

ALLIANCE - Alliance Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice is seeking applicants for the fall 2013 Hospice Volunteer Training Program. Graduates of the three-day training will provide support in the community to the terminally ill and their families. As a Hospice volunteer, you will be part of a team, make a difference, help someone through a difficult time, and most importantly, grow personally.

The training program is slated from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct, 29, 30 and 31 in the conference room at the Alliance Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice office, 885 S. Sawburg Road, Suite 106. Lunch will be provided.

Guilford Ruritans holding fish fry

GUILFORD LAKE - The public is invited to an all-you-can-eat fish fry from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Guilford Lake Ruritan Club on Route 172 at Hanna Drive.

Second Harvest hosting food giveaway

SALEM - Second Harvest will conduct a food giveaway from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at the Bunker Hill United Methodist Church, 15096 W. Middletown Road. Those attending are reminded to bring baskets.
