SALEM - Donald C. Chappell, 85, of Salem, died Thursday morning, Oct. 31, 2013 at his home following an illness.
He was born April 5, 1928 in Salem, Ohio, a son of the late Joseph M. and Florence (Colville) Chappell.
Mr. Chappell was the owner of Cardinal Picture Framing where he had worked as a picture framer for 20 years and previously started Chappell Picture Framing. He also worked as a pattern maker.
Don was a 1946 graduate of Salem High School and a member of both the Salem AMVETS Post 45 and the American Legion Post 56 in Salem. He served with the U.S. Navy during peacetime.
His wife, Gladys Mae (Borton) Chappell, whom he married June 12, 1982, preceded him in death Dec. 20, 1998. A brother, Arthur Chappell also preceded him in death.
Survivors include a son, David (Kande) Chappell of Lisbon; daughter, Diane (James) Chappell Foreman of Salem; three grandchildren, Kelsey Mulcahy of New York, Kristen Mills of New York and Sean Chappell of Salem; and two great-grandchildren, Lailen Chappell of Salem and Lydia Mulcahy of New York.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013 at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home with Pastor Doug George officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
