NEW WATERFORD - Village voters approved an additional 1.7-mill fire levy by a hefty margin on Tuesday.
According to complete but unofficial results from the Columbiana County Board of Elections, 114 (59.38 percent) people voted for the levy and 78 (40.63 percent) residents voted against it.
Mayor Shane Patrone said, "I'll take that. I think the people realize fire safety is really important.
"People feel we're not wasting money. I think it shows confidence and that the village is going the right way with the pottery opening and Dollar General coming."
Before the election, Fiscal Officer Dave Slagle said the levy will bring in an additional $21,400 annually to the fire department budget, or 17 cents for each $100 of tax valuation
The levy will be continuous.
