John Clifford 'Cliff' McKarns

SALINEVILLE - John 'Cliff' McKarns, 93, of Salineville, Ohio, passed away Nov. 6, 2013, at Blossom Nursing Home in Salem, Ohio.

He was born Feb. 19. 1920, in East Liverpool, Ohio, the son of Herman Hayes and Ethel Mae (Hull) McKarns.

Cliff was a farmer and had worked at B and W in Alliance, Ohio, and at Summitville Tile for 35 years until he retired. Cliff was a member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church. He was a school board member for East Local in Carrollton Schools. Cliff was a 60-year member of the Masonic Lodge in Salineville. Besides farming, he enjoyed his horses and coon hunting.

Cliff was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corps as a staff sergeant.

Cliff is survived by his loving wife Phyllis Ann (Ruff) who he married Dec. 31, 1984. A son, James C. McKarns of Salineville; two stepsons, Thomas (Lorrine) Norris of Hanoverton, Ohio, and Jerry (Debbie) Norris of Minerva, Ohio; three daughters, Carole (Bud) Thorne of Salineville, Jane (Gary) Mardis of Mechanicstown, Ohio, and Pat Kelly of Kensington; two stepdaughters, Noreen (Gary) Peterson of Beloit, Ohio, and Tracy (Earl) Pierson of Minerva; a sister, Cora Booth of Lisbon, Ohio; five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, 10 step grandchildren and 30 step great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death was his first wife, Mildred Irene (Skinner) who he married Nov. 10, 1941, and who died June 22, 1980. Also preceding him in death was a daughter, Donna Harsh; and three sisters, Mary Clark, Doris Watson and Jean Kelley.

Calling hours for Cliff will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Maple Cotton Funeral Home in Kensington with Masonic Services at 6:45 p.m.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013 at the funeral home with Pastor Tom Allmon and Bob Laughlin officiating.

Burial will follow at Bethesda Cemetery will full military honors.
