EAST PALESTINE - Rick L. Kirk, 69, of Padgett Road died at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hospice House, Poland, where he had been a patient for the past few days.
He was born March 14, 1944 in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Glenn and Marjorie Yost Kirk, and had resided in the area for the past 40 years.
He had been employed as a foreman with the Insul Company, and later was with Electrical Refractories, and for the past several years he had been employed as a custodian with the East Palestine School District.
He is survived by his wife, the former Peg Peterson Elser, whom he married May 19, 2001; a daughter Kelli (Micky Williams) Kirk of Austin, Texas; a stepson, Bernard Mahon Jr. of New Waterford; and two stepdaughters, Lynn (Dan) Hill, Leetonia, and Lana (Richard) Ferris, East Palestine. Rick also leaves nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren; four brothers, Glenn, Jim, and Andy Kirk of Pittsburgh, and Philip Artman and Marjorie (Frank) Quetot, both of Rogers.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Janice Householder Kirk, on June 24, 2000, as well as a stepson, Robert Mahon, and a granddaughter.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Oliver-Linsley Funeral Home, with Rebecca Hudak, a chaplain with Hospice of the Valley. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and for one hour prior to the funeral service.
