The Sebring Model Railroad Club is holding an open house this weekend and next at the Sebring Railroad Museum and Historical Society building (Sebring Station) at 216 E. Pennsylvania Ave. The event will run from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. today, next Saturday and Sunday. The donation is $3 for adults and children under 12 are free. November is National Model Railroad Month and the club invites the public to see mainline railroad prototype action while staying at a safe distance. Guests can also hear the model railroad locomotives equipped with realistic sound. Refreshments are available. The Sebring Model Railroad Club will be featured in Model Railroader Magazine in 2014. The club, which started in a garage in Salem, has been around for 65 years and held its first open house in 1990, according to Dennis Sautters, Sebring Model Railroad Club president. Sautters said there are six trains on the main lines at one time. Sautters is pictured in the right foreground and next to him, left, is Grace Knight and Chester Fowler, obscured behind Knight, of Alliance. Fowler is a past club member. Knight asked, "Isn't this amazing?" To get to the open house from U.S. 62, take 12th Street and make a left on E. Pennsylvania Ave. (Salem News photo by Larry Shields)
