Salem Visiting Nurses offer flu shots

SALEM - Salem Area Visiting Nurse Association will provide flu shots from 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 20 and 27 at 718 E. Third St. Cost is $25. SAVNA will bill your Medicare Part B or Anthem Senior Advantage Products (YRA, YRE, YRI, YRS prefixes only). Bring your insurance card. Appointments for homebound residents are available by calling 330-332-9986.

Breakfast offered at Washingtoville VFW

WASHINGTONVILLE - Breakfast will be served from 8 to 11 a.m. Sunday at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5532. Carryouts are available by calling 330-427-2533.

Nursing school plans enrollment meeting

SALEM - Hannah E. Mullins School of Practical Nursing will hold an enrollment information meeting, for anyone interested in becoming a licensed practical nurse, at 10 a.m. Nov. 25 at the Kent State University City Center, 230 N. Lincoln Ave.

Thanksgiving dinner at Memorial Bldg.

SALEM - A Thanksgiving Day dinner, free of charge, will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 28 at the Memorial Building, 785 E. State St. For a ride to the dinner or home delivery call 330-337-3728.

Lisbon Baptist Food Pantry open

LISBON - The Lisbon Baptist Food Pantry will be open to the residents of Columbiana County from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at 6428 Lisbon Road. Proof of residency is required.

Flea Market set at Columbiana church

COLUMBIANA - The public is invited to a flea market, lunch, soup and bake sale, quilt and basket raffle from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church, 28 E. Park Ave.

Salem Eagles plan holiday food drive

SALEM - The Fraternal Order Eagles 316 Aerie and Auxiliary are holding a holiday food drive at the club, 1884 N. Ellsworth Ave., from now until Dec. 14. To kick off this drive, the band Manhattan will entertain from 9 p.m. to midnight Saturday. Club members and guests are asked to donate at least two non-perishable item for admission.

Ruritan benefit to aid Tom Stermer

GUILFORD LAKE - A benefit dinner for Tom Stermer will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Guilford Lake Ruritan Hall on state Route 172 at Hanna Drive. The menu offers spaghetti and meatballs, salad, desserts and beverages. Cost is $8 per plate and $5 for children 12 and under. There also will be a 50/50 drawing and Chinese auction. Stermer has been a member of the club for 40 plus years and has served in numerous leadership positions in the past and present. He has had perfect attendance during his involvement with Ruritan and has always been supportive of the youth programs and youth in Ruritan and Ruriteens. Stermer had an accident at home that required surgery and extended time off work. He has worked at Ventra in Salem for 30 plus years. He is a Navy veteran. Proceeds will be used to help with medical expenses.

GED testing set at Choffin Center

YOUNGSTOWN - Official GED testing, sponsored by Choffin Career and Technical Adult Education Department University System of Ohio, offers morning and afternoon two-day testing at 8:45 a.m. and at 3:45 p.m. Dec. 3 and 4 and Dec. 10 and 11 at Choffin Career and Technical Center. All participants must be pre-registered and bring a photo ID. To pre-register for the test or to enroll in free classes call 330-744-8715.

Oglebay Park bus trip seats offered

COLUMBIANA - Seats are still available for the bus trip to Oglebay Park at 2 p.m. Nov. 30. Cost is $75 which includes dinner and the light show. Proceeds go to Meals on Wheels. Reservations may be made by calling 330-482-0366.

Flu shots offered at food distribution

COLUMBIANA - The Way Station at 769 Springfield Road will welcome Rite Aid once again to its monthly food distribution from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday. Anyone with a Medicaid or Medicare card will be able to receive a free flu shot during that time slot. Those who do not have Medicaid or Medicare may also receive a shot for $29.99.

Those coming for the food distribution should make sure they have their ID and a bag or box to carry their groceries along with the required Medicaid or Medicare cards (if they choose to get the flu shot).

Movies scheduled at Leetonia Library

LEETONIA- Upcoming movies at the Leetonia Community Public Library include the old classic "Nothing Sacred" with Carole Lombard and Fredric March at 1 p.m. Friday; "Golden Christmas 3" at 2 p.m. Dec. 2; the family movie "Planes" at 1 p.m. on Dec. 14; and "Christmas Angel" at 2 p.m. Dec. 17.

Salem Hunting Club plans rifle matches

SALEM - The Salem Hunting Club is hosting indoor .22 rifle matches on the second and fourth Friday off the month through April. The use of any optic is permitted. This is a family-friendly event open to anyone. The next match begins at 6 p.m. Friday. For details call 330-332-9847.

'Care and Share Program' offers aid

LEETONIA- Once again the Leetonia and Salem Township police departments will sponsor the "Care & Share Program" which provides for area families and veterans in the village and township only.

Due to the variety of ages and interests, the program has been limited this year monetary donations and gift cards or certificates to better meet the needs of those being assisted. Family or individual sponsorships are also available.
