COLUMBIANA Laurie A. Wilms, 57, passed away Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at St. Elizabeth's Boardman Health Center after becoming ill at work.
Mrs. Wilms was born June 28, 1956, in Salem, a daughter of Wayne and Leila Reesh McCamon, and lived in the area all her life.
Laurie was a member of the Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Columbiana. She worked as a preschool teacher and administrator for Jerusalem Lutheran Church (JLC) Preschool. Laurie enjoyed planning fundraising events to help the preschool and running the scholarship program to enable children to attend the preschool. Laurie also worked as a veterinary assistant at the Fairfield Animal Hospital. Besides her family, she loved nurturing, caring for and rehabilitating animals.
She is survived by her mother, Leila McCamon; her husband, Bill Wilms, whom she married July 7, 1979; two daughters, Kristin (Chris) Hawkins and Jena (Brian) Gustafson; twin sons, Scott (Tara) Wilms and Dustin Wilms and his significant other, Emily Dickinson; two brothers, Alan (Dinah) McCamon and Kevin McCamon; and one grandson, Adam Hawkins.
Her father, Wayne McCamon, preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana, with Pastor Sean Myers and Pastor David Conrad officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the services on Friday.
As in life, Laurie always gave selflessly and in death continued by saving and enhancing lives by being an organ and tissue donor.
