ALLIANCE - Bernice May (Sommers) Hilliard, 96, of Alliance, formerly of Kensington, died at 4:50 a.m. Monday at Canterbury Villa of Alliance.
Born April 16, 1917, in Salem, she was the daughter of the late John and Pearl (McConnor) Sommers.
Mrs. Hilliard had been a foster mother for a number of years. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Kensington.
Survivors include two daughters, Peggy Bergman of Kensington and Janice Hershberger of Commerce, Ga.; four sons, Allen (Faye) Hilliard of Hanoverton, David (Victoria) Hilliard of Jacksonville, Fla., Mervin (Gayle) Hilliard of Salem and Irven Hilliard of Kensington; 24 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Gladys Jerino and Ruth Chandler, both of South Carolina; and a brother, Joseph Sommers.
Preceding her in death on Dec. 26, 2006, was her husband, Clyde Hilliard, whom she married on April 18, 1936; and a daughter, Gwendolyn Sanson.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 30 at the First Christian Church of Kensington with the Rev. Gene Hydrick officiating. Interment will take place at Moultrie Chapel Cemetery in New Franklin.
