Salem Elks memorial service planned
SALEM - The Salem Elks Lodge No. 305 will hold its annual memorial service for deceased members at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Elks Lodge, 824 E. State St.
Exalted Ruler Lisa Wadlow will preside over the ceremonies which include a memorial address to be given by Pastor Douglas George of the First United Methodist Church of Salem and solos by Sue Deutschlander.
Those to be eulogized are Rodger C. Carson, Norman G. Weingart, John T. Harbin, Thomas J. Barrett, Harry L. McBride Jr., Thomas A. Lantz, Merrill C. Hawkins Jr., Edward J. Glista, Fred W. Koenreich, Edmund G. "Peanut" Carlariello, William J. Vaughn and John "Gary" Dermotta.
Chairman of this event is Philip T. Crowgey assisted by Russell C. Loudon, Tom Covert, Ken Dixon, Ed Connors and Floyd McCartney.
This service is open to the public and all relatives and friends of the departed members are invited to attend. Refreshments will be served by the officers following the memorial service in the lodge room.
Goshen trustees to hold work session
GOSHEN TWP. - The township trustees will hold a work session to discuss year end budgets and other year end issues at 7 p.m. Monday at the administration building.
Deer Expo planned in Leetonia
LEETONIA The ninth annual Deer Expo will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 15 at Leetonia Sportsman's Association, 311 E. High St.
Scorers will be on hand to "green" score your buck. Anyone bringing a rack to score or display will automatically be entered in a drawing for a muzzleloader. To win, both the rack and the hunter must be present for the drawing at 3 p.m.
Everyone paying admission will be eligible to win a door prize and there will be a drawing every 10 minutes. Children 15 years of age and younger and accompanied by an adult will be admitted free and eligible to win an air rifle. Adult admission is $3 without a buck rack or $1 with a rack to be scored or displayed. An outside air rifle range will be featured with some of the latest air rifles, including one of .45 caliber.

Bus trip to Stan Hywet Hall offered
SALEM - The Memorial Building is offering a bus trip to Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens on Saturday, Dec. 21. The trip includes a tour of the former estate of F.A. Seiberling, co-founder of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company.
This year's theme is "Deck the Hall: Heaven and Nature Sing" which features "Dazzle," the light show spectacular that includes 750,000 lights, 21 decorated rooms, poinsettias, nightly entertainment by area choirs and performers, visits with Santa, a gingerbread hut and treats from Molly's Shop.
The solarium will feature decorated trees and a frog collection; the breakfast room will be filled with birds surrounding a decorated twig tree and Virginia's room will be transformed into a winter garden. A poinsettia tree and poinsettias will fill the tower staircase. The music room will be appropriately festooned with harps, horns and angels in silver, white and gold to create a "heavenly" atmosphere for nightly entertainment by the choirs and performers.
The museum store offers a full line of apparel, accessories, books and unique gift items.
The bus will leave Salem at 4 p.m. and return at approximately 9:30 p.m.
Tickets are $13 for adults, $6 for children and free for 5 and under. Transportation costs are $14 per person.
