Range, Reserve rewarded on All-Ohio teams

COLUMBUS - Inter-Tri County League teams carving out playoff excellence were rewarded with high honors in the Div. VI and VII Associated Press All-Ohio football teams released on Wednesday.

South Range, which went 11-1 and won the Inter-Tri County League upper tier title, was represented by junior running back Joe Alessi and senior defensive back Billy Goodall on the Div. VI first team.

South Range junior running back Joe Alessi averaged 9.3 yards per carry, while setting single-season school records with 1,721 yards rushing and 174 points scored for the Raiders who finished third in the Div. VI state poll.

Goodall sparked a Raider defense which limited opponents to 21.2 points a game this season.

South Range senior offensive lineman Garrett Sorley took second team honors and was a big reason the Raiders averaged 42.6 points and 406 total yards a game.

Also in Div. VI, Springfield junior defensive lineman Mark Schuler grabbed second team honors, while Columbiana senior lineman Mike Buzzard was a third-team pick.

Schuler had 74 tackles and four sacks for the Tigers.

Buzzard totaled 90 tackles, including 12 sacks and 21 for losses, and two fumble recoveries.

Area special mentions in Div. VI included South Range senior defensive lineman Jake Ruiz, Springfield senior offensive lineman Gabe Crowe and Springfield junior defensive back Ryan Kohler.

The honors were just as strong in Div. VII.

Western Reserve senior quarterback Nick Allison was named Div. VII co-offensive player of the year.

Western Reserve senior quarterback Nick Allison passed for 2,314 yards and 22 touchdowns with six interceptions to lead the Devils who went 13-1 and won the ITCL lower tier title. He was joined on the first team with senior linebacker Dan Zilke.

Western Reserve had a couple juniors on the third team in end Joe Falasca and lineman Hunter Powell. Falasca had 50 catches for 1,190 yards (23.8) and 16 touchdowns.

Sebring senior running back Dylan Mick ran for 1,142 yards and 12 touchdowns as was rewarded with a third team selection.

Area special mentions in Div. VII included Wellsville senior offensive lineman Greg Beatty who helped lead a Tiger rushing attack that averaged more than 9 yards per carry and more than 3,000 on the season. Joining him was Wellsville senior defensive lineman Seth Bradford had 84 tackles in the regular season with two sacks and two fumble recoveries.

Leetonia senior defensive lineman Zack Van Giesen totaled 69 tackles, including 14 for losses, and had two fumble recoveries and was also a special mention as well as Western Reserve senior punter Parker Clegg.
