West Branch girls outwit Boardman

STRUTHERS - West Branch has a lot of hope.

The Warriors jumped out to a 28-15 halftime lead and rolled over Boardman, 52-41, Saturday at the Hope Classic at the Struthers Fieldhouse.

West Branch junior Melinda Trimmer was named the Hope Classic MVP.

The Warriors improve to 5-1 and will host Louisville on Wednesday in a matchup of defending Northeastern Buckeye Conference champions.

Marlington 55,

Minerva 44

MINERVA - A dominant second half for the Marlington girls basketball team catapulted the Dukes over Minerva 55-44 in Northeastern Buckeye Conference action on Saturday.

The Lions (3-3, 1-2) were led by Josie Chaddock with 15 points. Lauren Haynam added 10 while Bri Gassman shot for seven.

The Lions knocked out the Dukes 38-17 in the junior varsity game.

Minerva hosts East Canton on Monday.

CARROLLTON -The Carrollton girls basketball team dominated Salem in the first half and never looked back in a 67-34 win in a Northeastern Buckeye Conference play Saturday.

After outscoring the Quakers 22-3 in the first quarter, the Warriors continued the scoring frenzy with Monica Starre, who led the Warriors with 16 points. Ali Poole scored for 14 and Kelse Voce 10.

Chloe Cheresne led the Quakers with 10 points. Julia Dundan contributed nine and Olivia Stiff five.

Salem won the junior varsity game 43-26. Leah Menehos led the Quakers with 14 points. Maddie Dunlap scored 12 for the Warriors.

The Quakers host Alliance next Saturday.

Alliance 37

ALLIANCE - The Sebring girls basketball team jumped out to a 14-4 lead in the first quarter to beat Alliance, 42-37, Saturday.

Leading the Trojans were Kelsi Settle with 16 points and Murphy Flowers with 15.

Kate Daniels topped the Aviators with 11 points.

Both teams return to action Monday as Sebring hosts Lowellville and Alliance travels to Field.

Girard 63, Springfield 52

POLAND - Springfield fell behind by 17 points in the first half and dropped a 63-52 decision to Girard in the United Way Classic on Saturday night at Poland High School.

The Tigers trailed 29-12 with 2 1/2 minutes to play and 35-18 at halftime. The margin was 56-36 after three quarters before the Tigers closed the gap.

Springfield drops to 3-2 heading into Tuesday's home game against United.
