Smoking cessation program offered

ALLIANCE - Alliance Community Hospital is offering a free, four week smoking cessation program in conference room 1-B at the hospital, 200 E. State St. Classes are held on four consecutive Thursdays from 6 to 7 p.m. Jan. 9-30. Smoking cessation patches are not being offered as part of the program. HEAP applications taken at CAA

LISBON - The Community Action Agency of Columbiana County will continue taking applications for Emergency HEAP, Winter Crisis Program through March 31 at the Lisbon office located at 7860 Lincole Place (rear). Appointments can only be made by calling the automated scheduling system at 330-424-1386. Homebound and disabled seniors, 62 years and older, may call 330-424-4013 for appointment assistance.

The Winter Crisis Program provides assistance to low-income households that have had utilities disconnected, face a utility shut-off, or heat with bulk fuel and have a tank that is 25 percent or less of its capacity. Assistance is provided to eligible households once during the 2013-14 season. Household income eligibility is based on the previous 90 days or 12 months gross income (before taxes) at 175 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. Clients applying for PIPP Plus, be aware that the income guidelines are less; 150 percent or below the Federal Poverty Guidelines.

Based on the number of available staff, CAA will be accepting walk-in applicants daily on a first come, first serve basis starting at 8 a.m.

Applications for State HEAP can be completed through May 31 and are available at post offices, libraries, and utility companies throughout the county.

Jigsaw puzzle

LEETONIA - The Leetonia Community Public Library is starting a jigsaw puzzle exchange. The public is asked to bring in old, familiar puzzles and get some new ones. The puzzles are located on the shelves opposite the adult new books display.

Gifts offered to new members

SALEM - New memberships to the Salem Historical Society can select one of two offers. They will have their choice of the book, "The Salem Story Continues" published for the Salem Bicentennial in 2006 or the table runner of the 150th anniversary of Salem Public Schools prepared in 2003. Concealed carry class planned

SALEM - The Salem Hunting Club is holding one-day concealed carry classes at 8 a.m. Dec. 28 and Jan. 18. Classes start at 8 a.m. Pre-registration is required at 330-332-9847.
