SALEM - Police arrested a 22-year-old man on several charges after he allegedly struck a parked pickup with his car and then assaulted an auxiliary officer while being placed in custody late Monday night.
Narciso Lopez Hernandez of 594 E. Third St., was charged with failure to control, leaving the scene of an accident, no license, operating a vehicle under the influence, resisting arrest and assault on a police officer.
A 15-year-old male juvenile who was a passenger in his car was charged with underage consumption/delinquency.
Police had been dispatched to the 600 block of East Fourth Street at 11:37 p.m. Monday for a hit/skip accident. A silver Chevy truck had been struck by a car described as a tan Honda sedan with a black painted hood, which then left the area.
The sedan was found in the 500 block of East Third Street where officers made contact with the driver as he was getting out of the car. Officers were attempting to check him when he struck the auxiliary police officer in the face with his fist. He allegedly resisted arrest while officers were attempting to place him in custody.
They were able to take him into custody and he was taken to Salem Regional Medical Center for a possible injury before being taken to the Columbiana County jail.
The juvenile was charged and released to his sister.
The police report said the sedan had right front-end damage consistent with hitting the truck.
