CANFIELD - The Western Reserve Amateur Radio Club (wrarc.net) recently held its annual meeting at the A La Cart Banquet Hall in Canfield where new officers and board members were installed. Newly-elected officers include Roy Haren; president, Joe Wojtowicz, vice president; Maureen Stein, treasurer; and Kevin Stein, secretary. Other board members include Steve Fabry, Chris Monske and Harry Harker, trustees. The new board members thanked outgoing Past President Allan Avnet and his wife, Jane, for all their hard work and dedication since starting the club over four years ago.
At the meeting, the club also presented one of its sight-impaired members the remaining balance of a fund that members raised last year to purchase specialized amateur radio equipment. Special thanks also went to Dave and Liz Beatty who own and operate the club's local repeater station.
The organization promotes amateur (HAM) radio by providing periodic training classes at ITT Tech in Youngstown and the Federal Communications Commission's licensing examinations for the three amateur radio license classifications, technician, general and amateur extra class. In addition, its members provide voluntary communications services to local agencies for various community events throughout the year. Some members also participate in the American Radio Relay League's Amateur Radio Emergency Services training for providing voluntary emergency communications services to local first responders in the event of natural disasters.
