LEETONIA- The Leetonia library board is working on a use of facilities policy targeting the field north of the building.
Currently the field is mostly used by the Leetonia Area Sports Association (LASA) for soccer, but Library Director Lisa Rohrbaugh said there is no written policy regarding its use. She said the proposed policy, a sample of which she submitted to board members on Thursday for review, should stipulate that the field is library property and restrict its use to non-profit organizations.
Rohrbaugh explained the separate agreements will have to be made with LASA and the Leetonia school board spelling out the particulars of use for each, such as the scope of scheduling events, condition of the field and maintenance of the field.
A soccer committee has been created, consisting of representatives from the library board, school board and LASA. A meeting date is still undetermined.
In other business board approved a program for juveniles to eliminate fines by submitting reviews of materials such as books, apps or websites in an effort to avoid discouraging them from using the library because of their fines. Rohrbaugh said the program will be coordinated with the school to encourage participation among students and Dairy Queen coupons will be offered to those without fines.
The reviews will judged on age appropriateness and then compiled and made available to patrons, Rohrbaugh said.
The board also named Mark Gardner president, Will Lutz vice president and Mark Edwards secretary; rehired Randy Chismar as fiscal officer; approved 2014 appropriations at $305,000 and formed a committee to discuss possible employee raises. Also at the meeting, Chismar reported that the 2014 balance is $3,000 more than expected due to higher revenue and lower expenditures in 2013.
