MCC&TC offering informational sessions

CANFIELD - Adults interested in enrolling in career certification programs this year offered at the Adult Career Center Mahoning County Career and Technical Center are invited to attend one of several free informational sessions.

The free, informational sessions will be held at 6 p.m. today, Feb. 20 and March 11 at the Adult Career Center MCC&TC at 7300 N. Palmyra Road. The sessions include career investigation as well as reading, math and language assessments. Visitors will also tour the building, meet instructors and learn about financial aid opportunities.

East Palestine zoning board will meet

EAST PALESTINE - The East Palestine Zoning Board of Appeals meeting begins at 6 p.m. Thursday for a variance request.

Lisbon BOE will conduct work session

LISBON A work session of the Lisbon Exempted Village School District's Board of Education begins at 4 p.m. Thursday in the BOE office, 317 N. Market St. for the purpose of discussing the superintendent search. No action will be taken.

Salem Library offering tech assistance

SALEM Technology assistance for devices capable of downloading eBooks, digital magazines and learning how to setup and use your device with the Salem Public Library's collections is available.

Library technology staff members will provide assistance from 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 25 and Feb. 1 at the library. Registration is not required and the assistance is free of charge. Those attending should bring their electronic device, along with its cables and chargers.

Cabin Fever Fest and Chili Cook-Off set

YOUNGSTOWN - Mill Creek MetroParks' Police and Recreation Departments will hold a Cabin Fever Fest and Chili Cook-Off at noon Feb. 1 at Wick Recreation Area. Outdoor games, sled riding, snow sculpting competition, children's crafts and more are available.

After enjoying the outdoor festivities, warm up with a chili cook-off inside the Warming House starting at noon. The public can taste the chili to choose their spiciest, most colorful and overall best chili. Judging will take place at approximately 1:30 p.m. Admission to Cabin Fever Fest is free. Aspiring and amateur chefs can enter the chili cook-off for $10. Details, rules and contest registration is available at or by calling Ford Nature Center at 330-740-7107.

The MetroParks Police Department will be offering a child identification program as a free community service. Children can receive their individual ChildPrint ID Kit with fingerprinting and other safety features to take home. All outdoor activities are weather-dependent. The Wick Recreation Area is located at the corner of Bella Vista and McCollum Road, 1861 McCollum Road, Youngstown.

Talent scout to lecture in Lisbon

LISBON - America's leading expert on young performers, renowned New York talent scout Peter Sklar, will present "Getting Started in the Arts," a free lecture for aspiring teen dancers, singers and actors, and their parents at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Playhouse, 234 E. Lincoln Way.

There is no charge for admission, but reservations are required. No one under age 7 will be admitted with or without a parent, and no one under 18 will be admitted without their mother or father. Gamblers Anonymous to meet in Boardman

BOARDMAN - Gamblers Anonymous, a 12-Step fellowship for compulsive gamblers who want to recover from their gambling addictions, will meet at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Westminster Church, 119 Stadium Drive.

Blood screenings offered in Columbiana

COLUMBIANA - Comprehensive blood screenings, sponsored by Salem Regional Medical Center's Outreach Services and Laboratory, will be available on Saturday for $40 by appointment only at the Columbiana Family Care Center, 750 E. Park Ave.

Comprehensive blood screenings can help to identify many health problems in their earliest stages, when they are most treatable, and may detect conditions such as high cholesterol, anemia and other disorders.

Participants may add a prostate specific antigen (PSA) screening to their comprehensive panel for an additional $10; or an HgA1C diabetes screening for an additional $25. A lipid profile only, which measures cholesterol levels and is included in the comprehensive screening, is also available for $10.

Leetonia Library plans party for Elvis

LEETONIA- The Leetonia Community Public Library will host a belated birthday party for Elvis Presley at 6 p.m. Jan. 27 featuring a "top-notch" Elvis impersonator will serenading with Elvis hit songs.

There will also be a Chinese auction of Elvis memorabilia, a trivia contest and, of course, birthday cake. Participants are encouraged to dress in '50s, '60s and '70s clothing. The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Leetonia Community Public Library. Register by calling 330-427-6635.

Pasta fundraiser is Jan. 25 in N. Waterford

NEW WATERFORD - A pasta dinner fundraiser is slated from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Jan. 25 at New Waterford United Methodist Church, 46925 state Route 46. A buffet format is offered with various types of cooked pasta with a choice of three sauces, garlic bread, salad, beverages and desserts. Donations will be accepted.

There will be a silent auction held during the dinner. The evening will conclude with family re-gift bingo from 6 to 8 p.m. Those interested are asked to bring a wrapped re-gift to use as prizes. There is no charge and no cash prizes for bingo. For more information call 330-457-7436.
